cooking update
This is not an update ABOUT cooking. This is an update WHILE cooking. My mind is so flitting these days that I cannot start one thing without thinking of five other things I could be doing at the same time. So - after several days of having an update be one of the five things I wanted to do but wasn’t doing - I decided that I would have to co-write an update, while co-cooking.
[Excuse me, I will move a stew from the pot to a glass storage bowl. I will also put on a CD.]
[[Katya is napping, you see. Her naps usually only last about 40 minutes. So you have to do as many things during that time as possible.]]
[To match my mood, I put on Gogol Bordello’s album “Gypsy Punks.” They play music with crazy energy, just suiting my doing three to five things at once.]
You may wonder at where I come by such a store of energy. KATYA IS SLEEPING THROUGH THE NIGHT. I have not yet completely trained myself to sleep through the night. I continue to wake up at 3 am and at 6 am, which are the two times that Katya almost always woke up before. Now, she is going to sleep between 8 and 9 pm and getting up between 8 and 9 in the morning. YEAH!!! Sometimes she cries a little during the night, but she doesn’t need to be picked up. She can put herself back to sleep. She is also taking 3 or 4 naps a day, every two to three hours. Life is completely different now. Things can be planned.
[I will empty the dishwasher, wash the stew pot and make Katya’s next bottle.]
[[Oops! Plan detour. Katya woke up. Now instead of cooking, I’ll be feeding.]]
So now with Katya playing in her little rocking chair, I will continue to try to co-cook-n-write. Katya is now eating cereal as well as drinking formula. She does this very well. At the beginning she was inclined to spit the cereal back out as soon as it was in. Now she opens her mouth for the spoon and swallows the food. She eats cereal for breakfast and dinner.
It is becoming clear that Katya is quite a serious person indeed. She often smiles at people - but to get her to laugh is quite a challenge. It is not that she can’t laugh. She can. But, she doesn’t find that many things funny.
Katya is now practicing sitting up. She holds fingers very tightly. She likes to bounce in her hanging bouncer for about 10 minutes at a time. She also likes to play in her little floor gym (a blanket with lots of toys hanging overhead.) She likes to talk and sing to herself every now and then.
