school
Well, school has started! Wow! What a lot of stuff! I have been through a week of orientation and the first week of classes. I think things are going to work out well. Working, as well as school, makes the schedule a little tighter than it would be, but I think all will be just fine.
I am taking the following classes:
1. Conceptual Foundations of International Politics (the basic international affair theory course)
2. International Law
3. The Legacy of Empire and the Soviet Union (a survey course of the politics, history, economics, literature, nationalities, etc. of the Soviet Union and now Russia and the former Soviet Republics). So far we have read a novel by Kurban Said called Ali and Nino about Baku 1914 - 1920, George Kennan’s article which founded America’s containment policy in the cold war, and Iurii Lotman and Boris Uspenskii’s article on the Binary Models in the Dynamics of Russian Culture.
4. Intermediate Russian Language
5. Economics of International Affairs
6. Human Rights Practicum - a short course this year addressing Globalization and Human Rights.
